There are many motel accommodation options in Bega, and many more places to consider in the gorgeous seaside townships of Tathra and Merimbula. Bega also has a number of cafés and clubs offering dining, Tathra’s food scene has gone through a bit of a renaissance lately, and there are many pub, club and restaurant options in Merimbula.

Here are some suggestions if you’re coming to our beautiful valley for the Festival of Open Minds and would like to make a weekend of it…

The Bega Village Motor Inn is situated in the heart of Bega, and the perfect place to stay for relaxing holiday, and an ideal central base to explore what the Sapphire Coast has to offer. The Motor Inn itself is central to clubs, shops & restaurants, where you can take in the great country atmosphere. Bega and its surrounding areas have so much to offer. Close by is the famous Bega Cheese factory and the historical Bega Court House. A short drive north or south will take you to the coasts most picturesque beaches for fishing, surfing and swimming.

Some dine in or take away options for dinner are Mal’s Pizza Bite and the Bega Thai Restaurant which are both in the centre of town. There are a number of club and pub restaurants we recommend such as Club Bega and The Commercial Hotel. Breakfast and lunch at either Issi and Co, or Café Evolve will get you fuelled up and ready for the Festival of Open Minds on Saturday morning, they will also be open during our lunch break.

Accommodation in Tathra:

Accommodation in the beautiful seaside town of Tathra, is only 25 minutes drive from Bega through fertile green farmland. There is a broad choice of accommodation types, from motels to the sumptuous new suites at the refurbished Tathra Hotel. Stay an extra night and make a weekend of it in this gorgeous village surrounded by pristine waterways and National Parks to the north and the south.

Dining in Tathra:

From Eggs Benedict on the beach sands, to healthy smoothies and the best coffee on the coast, Tathra’s food scene is on the up and has some great new eateries. Our pick for breakfast is Wild Orchid, our favourite coffee is both Blend at Tathra and early-birds The Gap, lunch and some live music at the Tathra Hotel looking over the ocean is a must, and dinner and a cocktail at Fat Tony’s Bar and Grill is a great night out. Tathra Beach Tapas does the lot, including take aways, right on the sand near the Surf Club.

Accommodation in Merimbula:

Straight down the highway from Bega is beautiful, bustling Merimbula. There are loads of accommodation options, from motels to large family and share apartments, 25 minutes drive from the Bega township. Plenty of restaurants, clubs, and tour and activities on the water to keep the whole family entertained over a weekend.

Dining in Merimbula:

We’re going to include Pambula in this section as there are a couple of memorable dining experiences to be had in the little hamlet 3 kms south of Merimbula such as Wheelers Restaurant and fine-dining newcomer Banksia. Merimbula has some big clubs with excellent cafés and restaurants (like Club Sapphire), and there are some lovely seaside places for lunch and coffee like Mormors and The Waterfront, and if you feel like little your hair down after the Festival of Open Minds experience, Dulcie’s Cottage will shake things up to your liking, with superb cocktails and classic burgers.
